SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)
There is little point in spending money and time on a website if your customers cannot find it. Good SEO will result in your website appearing on the first page in search engines for specific key phrases/keywords that it has been optimized for.
Do I have to have SEO work done?
If you advertise in media such as television, radio or newspapers and include your website address then people will visit your site from the adds and even without having SEO work done your website will eventually appear in some search engines. The problem will be where it appears, which page of the search results.
Online studies have shown that users consistently click on links shown of the first page of search engine results and these are the sites winning business and traffic – do you search patiently through 40 pages of results or do you yourself concentrate on the first pages before refining your search?
Example of SEO and how it would work.
Your website sells John Deere tractor parts. If someone opens a search engine and types in “John Deere tractor parts”, your site will appear along with all other website that have pages about John Deere tractors parts. However, if your website has had basic SEO work done and someone searches for “John Deere tractor parts” your website will show quite highly in the results. I just checked and it would show about #8th or 9th with basic SEO.
With more intensive SEO work done your website would probably appear at #5. The more key phrases your website is optimized for, the more searches and the higher up in those searches your site will show in results.
If you sell John Deere Tractor Parts just in Ohio for example even with basic optimization your website could rank #1 for a search for
John Deere Parts Ohio since know other website is optimized for that particular phrase
