SEO First Steps
This is how Canz SEO operates
When contacted by a potential client, I ask these questions:
1. What is the URL? (so I can get the website up on my computer while we talk or quickly check the site)
2. How long has it been online?
3. How many main pages does your website have?
4. What is your budget for having your website optimized?
Many people are wary about telling me their budget (and I can understand why), but this saves us both a lot of time. If your budget is too low, I will tell you so…and suggest what would be more realistic. If it’s too high…I’ll tell you that and I will suggest other ways you might spend extra money to get results faster than you thought; like paid inclusion in search engines or a pay-per-click campaign.
While talking on the phone I can take a quick look and I will be able to tell within a few page changes if your site is optimized at all; if it isn’t I will suggest your best plan of action.
I will tell you immediately if your site is optimized properly and all you have to do wait for the optimization to work. Optimization or good optimization should only take a few days to start working, on an existing website a brand new website can take a month or so, this is just time for the search engine spiders to visit all pages.
If I can’t see what is wrong and your site has not been changed for some time: I will suggest you have me do a basic analysis.
Basic analysis is a process using various programs to check the main search engines in order to find out which pages on your site have been spidered by these engines. If properly done each web page should be working like mini websites…all being found in search engines for various key phrases and what those phrases are.
I’ll check the key phrases to see they are correct and that they are, in fact, the sort of phrases people search for in search engines. I will check that the key phrases used are used correctly.
I will check page content (which is extremely important), as is the way your website links to other pages within your site.
I’ll keep looking until I find out what the problem is. It could be something as simple as your designer didn’t enter your new website into search engines, which can be done reasonably quickly and cheaply or could be something quite different like the menus aren’t designed correctly and spiders can’t find the links in them.
When the analysis is completed: I’ll then write or ring you and we can discuss which plan would best suit you and your budget. If I don’t have a specific plan that suites your needs, we will customize a plan of action designed to address the problem and optimize your site. These special plans are quite usual, as each website has different things already done.
The best plans aren’t necessarily the most expensive plans: Sometimes
The fact is that search engines react better to slow consistent optimization…something that shows constant improvement and care.
We have SEO plans that entail just making your website receptive to search engines …so their spiders can navigate from page to page and properly index each page while they are there. This insures that the key phrases found will do well in search engine results.
The cost for doing this initial work varies greatly…the main factor is what sort of website you have.
A straight html site is very quick to fix.
Database driven websites and CMS can be trickier and you may need to get some heavy programming work done. If you don’t have funds to do that at this stage we will make suggestions regarding programming and work around the programming problems to get things moving so your website will work for you in the meantime.
Example:
A 5 page html website could cost anywhere from $500 to $2500 to: do the initial SEO work and enter it into the main search engines. After the grunt work has been done; we let the improvements do their job for at least six weeks; during this time we check every two weeks with the analysis programs (small adjustments may be made after each analysis) and watch the progress of search engines and traffic. You will notice definite improvements during this period.
Once this period is over and we can mark the improvement as the search engines do their job, I will suggest a maintenance plan. At this stage your website is checked on a regular basis that includes making certain that key phrases used are the most frequently used search phrases, watching the trends in the market and making adjustments accordingly.
Maintenance plans are paid monthly and are generally contracted for a year.
Cost varies dependent upon the size of the website but generally run from $300 and up per month depending on the site, and what results you want.
We guarantee you will have at least one hours work done on your website each and every month for every $50 paid. I don’t charge for running analysis programs (which can take anywhere from 1- 6 hours dependent upon the size of your site), just for analyzing the results and incorporating the changes suggested. Please do not think that all the work is done by programs… they are just tools, like a hammer. Program analysis can often be wrong…no one program tells the whole story nor can it take the place of human analysis; much of what I do is from the knowledge I have gained from years of SEO experience.
Access Requirements
Website control panel (Cpanel) and web statistics
FTP information: this is needed to make small, behind the seen changes to your pages. No major changes are done without prior permission. Most of the changes necessary are made to the code part of your pages which no one will see just search engines.
This access is not absolutely essential but a thorough SEO job cannot be done without access. Results are vastly higher if I can access these important parts of your website.
